Indian Commentator & Tom Moody on Babar vs Kohli in ODIs

Former cricketers Tom Moody and Sanjay Manjrekar recently engaged in a captivating discussion on Star Sports, delving into a comparison between two cricketing stalwarts: Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. The focal point of their conversation was centered around these players’ performances within the 50-over cricket format.

The essence of Babar’s playing style, characterized by authentic cricketing shots and a profound understanding of the game, is akin to the approach Kohli has impeccably demonstrated over the course of a decade. Moody went on to laud Babar’s prowess as a chaser, reminiscent of Kohli’s renowned ability to chase down targets effectively.

Moody further noted, “There’s so much likeness between the two and I wouldn’t go as far as saying that Virat is gonna have a better Asia Cup than Babar Azam, but they both can have equal pressure on them and it’s gonna be a delight to watch them both bat because they are box office.” His anticipation for a riveting showdown between the two players during the upcoming Asia Cup was palpable.

Expanding the discourse, Tom Moody offered insights into Babar Azam’s role as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team for the impending 2023 Asia Cup. He emphasized the demanding nature of captaincy in Asian teams, where every move of the captain is scrutinized under a microscope. Moody acknowledged that Babar is still navigating the growing pressures associated with captaincy, acknowledging the challenge that lies before him.

Shifting their attention to the format of the Asia Cup, Sanjay Manjrekar conveyed his excitement about Babar Azam’s potential to seize the spotlight. He underscored the distinctiveness of the 50-over format, distinct from the T20 format, and expressed optimism about witnessing Babar’s prowess in full display on this grand stage. Manjrekar’s statement, “Asia Cup this time round you might just see a bit of Babar Azam and maybe show his place as well,” encapsulated his belief in Babar’s ability to make a mark in the tournament.

The wait for an enthralling display of talent in the Asia Cup from both players was evident, as Babar Azam prepares to lead Pakistan and potentially exhibit his mettle on the 50-over stage.
